What is The TENT Project?
TENT is a well-being cafe in Ravendale St North in Scunthorpe, we are a Community Interest Company that aims to help people to take better care of themselves. We sell great food, everything is made fresh in our kitchen, amazing cakes, hot meals and salads, lots of different teas and the best coffee in town. The cafe has been opened in 2023 and has become a local hub of community for many people, in particular for women. TENT is run entirely by volunteers, under the leadership of Victoria Markham, but every volunteer has their own story about what brought them to TENT and how they found a home here. The building has two levels, the cafe runs downstairs, and upstairs is our social, relaxation and therapy space used for workshops, gatherings, pamper treats and meditation as well as a smaller room for confidential conversations to happen in. TENT signposts anyone who needs help to local services for health or wellbeing needs, for example domestic abuse or homelessness. Many of the volunteers have had their own experiences and have done training in spotting domestic violence, abuse or suicide risks. We also host a lot of groups in the cafe, from bereavement support to craft groups and a monthly evening for neuro-diverse women. TENT is a safe space for everyone to come and be themselves whatever is going on in life.
