The Silenced Red Flags Project

A project about women and for women, aimed at understanding the many areas of life where women are suppressed, minimized, silenced and abused. We are working to challenge the accepted norms of a sexist society and eliminate as many red flags as possible along the way. The project is in two sections:

  1. Herstory - looking at how women through the centuries have arrived  been treated as second class objects existing mainly for unpaid domestic work, having/ raising children and belonging to men.
  2. Turning red flags gold - working to challenge the assumptions made about women, sharing our experiences, talking openly about things usually kept quiet, rediscovering our value and educating others about these things. Learning to spot the red flags and act to stop their negative impact, turning them into golden nuggets of truth.

Silenced Red Flags currently involves:

  • posting questions, opinions, experiences and examples of turing red flags to gold in our Facebook Group and website
  • an academic study logging the experiences of coercion and sexual violence against local women, you can take part in that by clicking here
  • lots of conversations among women at TENT
  • a women's library available upstairs at TENT with lots of books by and for women, including some amazing personal stories.
