Seeking Support at Tent
We often encounter people in need of support at Tent and are known in Scunthorpe as a safe place to go. We can't solve everyone's problems for them, but we always do what we can within our safeguarding procedures, whether that is mental health first aid or being a shoulder to cry on; signposting people to local services for domestic violence; being a safe space for our LGBTQA+ friends or simply refilling a cup with tea and asking after a person's well-being. We are here to help, whatever the circumstances, but there are a few specific ways we can support you when you come to our cafe:
Period Poverty
If you are struggling to access pads or tampons, come and use our bathroom to help yourself to what you need. No questions asked. We now also host a Period Point, so you don't even need to go into the bathroom. Check out Period Points here: https://periodpoints.co.uk
Suicide Support
All of our staff are trained in suicide awareness and can talk with someone feeling suicidal. They can also help people to set up the Stay Alive App on their mobile phone.
Domestic Violence Support
We have several members of staff who have this training and are able to have a confidential conversation with someone experiencing domestic violence. We support by listening and refering to other agencies. Just go to the counter and ask for a private chat.
Sexual Violence Support
We also have several people trained to support those who have experienced sexual violence or coercion. Whether it is a brand new event or something that happened a while ago, we can support with listening, decision making and onward referals.
Ask for a private chat at the counter.
